Welcome

On February 13th, demolition began on the Pier 1 shed. Over the spring and summer BBPDC has demolished almost all the remaining pier sheds, the Purchase Building, and a number of upland structures. Park construction is expected to begin on Piers 1 and 6 this coming winter. The demolition and construction debris is being removed from the site and brought to recycling centers via barges, a process that minimizes pollution and truck traffic through the adjoining neighborhoods.

Pier 1 Construction will begin this November

At its October 22nd board meeting, the BBPDC received authorization to sign its first contract for park construction of Pier 1 and the Old Fulton Street gateway. This 9.5 acre portion of the park will include great lawns, a 1/4 mile waterfront promenade, a bike path that will connect to the Brooklyn Greenway, a playground, and "river steps" constructed from salvaged granite from the Roosevelt Island Bridge. Pier 1 is expected to be open to the public by the end of 2009.
